John P. Degen is the founder of Chesapeake Caregivers, Inc. Following a path out of college in corporate sales. In 2000, he decided to pursue a career in Senior Living. Chesapeake Caregivers was initially a boutique Assisted Living business with multiple locations on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Providing quality care to local seniors is his priority and as the company's owner and operator of the company, he wore many hats. John was hands-on with assisting residents, developing operational and marketing budgets, HR and maintaining quality control and licensure. But he wanted to do more.
While running Chesapeake Caregivers he researched ways to build on a strong foundation and find other ways to serve seniors. In 2009, he established Chesapeake Caregivers Home Care in 2009. Chesapeake Caregivers Home Care continues to operate today and has achieved an average annual revenue growth rate in excess of 20%. Never sitting still, in 2016, John purchased a property in Annapolis to build the largest assisted living and memory care facility in the area. He served as the Executive Operations Officer E.O.O. of Bay Village Assisted Living and Memory Care from its opening in March 2021 until December 2022. Once Bay Village was up and running and operating successfully, John continued to build on his passion for creating Mid-Size to Large Senior Living Communities in the Mid-Atlantic region. In January of 2023, he launched Chesapeake Caregivers Development, LLC. The company and its partners are focused on developing new senior care communities by researching local sites, navigate planning and zoning, provide in-depth market analysis for viability, raise capital and offer potential investors a detailed pro-forma model and return on investment. In 2023, Chesapeake Caregivers Development plans to expand further and establish Chesapeake Caregiver's Management as the Operator of its newly built and acquired Independent Living Communities.
Grant serves as the Acquisitions Manager for Chesapeake Caregivers Development, LLC. He is also the Vice President of Development for The Severn Companies, a role he has held since March 2020. His primary responsibilities include underwriting and acquiring new developments, capital markets, project management, and investor relations. Previously, he served as a Financial Analyst for Capital Health Group, LLC, where he participated in the acquisition and development of over $200 MM in Class A Senior Living communities as well as the financing and refinancing of numerous projects. Grant graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Economics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and holds a Master’s in Real Estate from Georgetown University.
